UNIQUE RURAL BIRDFEEDER AND WATERING STATION

ADDED TO THE C&S RANCH PRESERVE

CAMPO, August 3 - An innovative bird feeder and watering station are the latest additions to the C&S Ranch and Nature Preserve located on eight acres in San Diego's east county. They were built from an old cookie tin laying around the barn and an off the shelf feeder from Sam Walton's place, Wal-Mart. These unique sculptures by the preserves Curator Mr. Craig Williams, IT Consultant and general screw off, provide a more livable environment for the many birds in the area.

The whimsical watering station combines function with artistic innovation. A old tin cookie container was modified with the assistance of artists, designers and architects under the guidance and direction of bird experts. ( Final inspection by county engineers is pending.) The watering station and feeder meet strict standards for the health and safety of the bird species that live in San Diego's back country. They are scaled to fit the needs of any species, although the vulture's may have a little problem taking a full body bath, can be easily cleaned, have proper ventilation and use non-toxic materials.

"This is a unique and exciting project for the east county," said Craig Williams, C&S Ranch President. "Campo's getting one or two new residential projects, and nobody said some of these new residents couldn't have wings." The project is a collaboration between neighbor Dave and the C&S Ranch.

The project is installed in a native shrub that attracts birds. Dynamic informational graphics that teach children and their parents about birds will be displayed as soon as Dave's kids finish their housework, and when we get around to it there will be a tot lot and observation deck for children to watch the birds. ( For now they just sit around in the dirt and figure it out by themselves as kids are a lot smarter than we give them credit! )

This very ordinary project was originally unveiled as part of the recent Pine Valley Days celebration. The community event brought together over 5000 people who celebrated with a parade, live, music and food. After the big celebration two friends traveled to the C&S Ranch to view the watering station and feeder.

We went to fill up the Barn and came back with a Ranch Dog!

Xena, Warrior Dog

We found our Ranch Dog. When we arrived to fill up the Barn here was our Ranch Dog waiting for us. Neighbor Dave said she had been there for several days. I guess when people don't want their pets anymore they take them to the back country and drop them off. She was cold and hungry and attached herself to us like Velcro. It didn't take her long to figure out C&S Ranch is her property and was soon barking when any guest arrived. Checkout the Retirement Dreams link for further details.
